Call (617) 575-2006 Tell us what happened

Massachusetts law gives tenants real protection. A landlord cannot remove you without a Housing Court judgment and an execution served by a sheriff or constable. Changing the locks, shutting off utilities or putting your belongings outside is illegal. If you have been served a notice to quit or a summons, you can raise defenses and counterclaims, and the deadlines are short. Doubleday Law represents tenants, and only tenants, in Housing Court across Massachusetts.

Why tenants call us

  • Housing Court is the practice, not a sideline. Arthur Hardy-Doubleday has represented tenants there since 2012.
  • Prevailed at the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court in Davis v. Comerford, a decision tenants’ lawyers across the state now rely on.
  • Former president, NAACP Martha’s Vineyard Branch. Community is the point of the work.
